Dawn Thomson is a jazz guitarist and vocalist born in Hastings, Nebraska and who grew up in Montreal.
She lived in New York City for many years where she studied with renowned guitarists Jim Hall and Emily Remler. She later became part of the jazz faculty at the New School University. It was during the 1990s when Thomson began collaborating with many NYC jazz artists including Matt Wilson, Renee Rosnes, Gary Versace, Harry Allen and many others. Dawn has released six CDs as a bandleader and composer and has performed and toured around the world including many jazz festivals and clubs in Europe, Canada, and the U.S. This year she has recorded and toured extensively with Matt Wilson’s Honey and Salt. Their newest release won album of the year of 2018 by the Jazz Journalists Association.
She currently lives in Rochester, NY with her husband John Nugent, who produces the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival, and their two children Jess and Amelia.
