ROCHESTER, N.Y. – March 24, 2015 – John Nugent and Marc Iacona, Producers of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival (XRIJF) (http://www.rochesterjazz.com), today announced the full lineup for the festival’s 14th edition, June 19–27, 2015.
Marc Iacona, Producer and Executive Director, said “This year’s festival will be presented at 19 venues over nine days and feature another eclectic international lineup of legendary and emerging artists from 18 countries and the U.S. In addition, we will deliver a record 93 free shows and events, making this truly a festival with something for everyone.”
Artists performing include Diana Krall, Jennifer Hudson, Gary Clark Jr. plus Beth Hart, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue back for their fifth appearance at XRIJF, Wheels of Soul Summer Tour 2015 featuring Tedeschi Trucks Band plus Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Herb Alpert and Lani Hall, Steep Canyon Rangers, Steve Gadd Band with a special surprise guest, Stanley Clarke, Antonio Sanchez, Kenny Werner, Fred Hersch, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Arstidir, Peter Rowan, Saxofour, Wood Brothers, Bill Charlap, Grace Kelly, Kurt Rosenwinkel, 11-year old Indonesian piano prodigy Joey Alexander, The Mavericks, Blood Sweat and Tears with Bo Bice, Los Lonely Boys and many more.
The final headliner show was just announced today. Steve Gadd Band 70th Birthday Celebration with special surprise guest will perform Friday, June 26 at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre at 8:00 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 27 at 10:00 a.m. online only at rochesterjazz.com. We again received well over 2500 artist proposals with requests to perform. This year’s lineup will provide a wide spectrum of sound, style, color and vibe. On behalf of our team of over 300 volunteers, crew and support staff we thank everyone for their patronage and hope they’ll enjoy all the fantastic music.”
In addition to being one of the world’s largest jazz festivals, XRIJF presents one of the most extensive lineups of international talent. Made in the UK, now in its eighth year, is the largest presentation of British jazz outside the UK. Nordic Jazz Now will celebrate its ninth year at the festival.
New in 2015
Two New Club Pass Venues
• Squeezers Roots & Americana Stage at the Sibley Building – Featuring two shows nightly at 7:30 and 9:30PM, this new venue with views of Main Street will be located on the second floor and seats 400.
• Theatre at 440 East in the First Church of Christ, Scientist – This 1000-capacity intimate acoustic-only solo concert venue will feature one show daily from 4-5PM Sunday, June 21 through Thursday, June 25.
Harro East Ballroom Club Pass Venue will be open for two additional nights this year with two shows nightly all nine days.
Rochester Regional Health Big Tent 6PM shows will be FREE and feature regional big bands. 8 and 10PM shows are $20 at the door or access with Club Pass.
New Official App for iPhone and Android smartphones will be released in May.
Eastman School of Music – XRIJF Gerry Niewood Scholarship Concert is free, Monday, June 22 at 8PM, Eastman Jazz Ensemble directed by Bill Dobbins, “Miles Davis Electric Project” with Charlie Pillow & Clay Jenkins. Scholarship recipients will be announced.
Temporary Relocation of Alexander Street Stage Concerts – Due to construction of the Inner Loop, there is no stage at Alexander Street and East Avenue this year. Instead, those concerts have been added to the Chestnut Street Stage schedule.
Jazz Workshops for Music Students – June 22–26 – This series of five structured jazz workshops for grade school and high school music students is sponsored by Wegmans, hosted by Bob Sneider, Eastman School of Music Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media and Senior Instructor of Jazz Guitar, and led by visiting musicians performing at XRIJF.
