About Dawn Thomson
Rochester-based guitarist/vocalist Dawn Thomson hails from Hastings, Nebraska. She grew up in Montreal and moved to NY City in 1992. For the past two years she has been living in Rochester with husband and jazz festival producer, John Nugent and their two children Jess (7) and Amelia (3).
Dawn has performed and toured extensively in North American and Europe with her own groups and has released 6 recordings as a leader. Her debut album in 1991, The Best Things in Life received fabulous reviews from numerous trade magazines and garnered considerable airplay in Canadian markets. In 1995 she released "Little Feet, Little Hands" on the Pori Jazz Label in Finland and subsequently released 2 recordings for NY JAM Records in 1999 "Happenstance" and in 2001 "Imagine That". Dawn has performed in a variety of situations with a long list of diverse artists such as Renee Rosnes, Milt Jackson, Don Thompson, Terell Stafford, Mulgrew Miller, Peter Bernstein, The Woody Herman Orchestra, Harry Allen, James Williams and Dave Liebman.
Her most recent project What Well Find is a collection of all original music performed by her working band featuring Kevin Breit, Gary Versace, Doug Weiss and Hugh Sicotte.
