Jazz has always been a natural part of Iris Bergcrantz life, since she grew up in a jazz music family.
Already as a four-year-old, she started singing in a choir and at the age of nine she participated on a record. At the age of 14 Bergcrantz received third prize in an international singing competition that was broadcast in Macedonian TV. At the age of 17 she received the award "rising star of the year" and she has received numbers of scholarships throughout the years. June the 15th 2014 Bergcrantz debuted as a soloist with Malmö Opera Orchestra, where they performed a piece written by herself and arranged by Anna-Lena Laurin. The concert took place at Malmö Arena, a concert visited by several thousands of people. In the fall Bergcrantz will tour around Sweden with the great jazz legend Victor Lewis. She will also be on Swedish television performing her own music.
Bergcrantz also has a great interest for other genres such as classical music as well as folk music. She composes, arranges and performs with her own music as well as others in different ensembles and settings.
Anders Bergcrantz is widely considered to be one of the major voices of his instrument. He has performed and / or recorded with a diverse range of notable musicians, including Dave Liebman, Billy Harper, Victor Lewis, Billy Hart, Richie Beirach, Monica Zetterlund, The Royal Stockholm Symphony Orchestra, The Symphony Orchestra at Norrlandsoperan, Adam Nussbaum, McCoy Tyner, Mike Brecker a.o.
Bergcrantz has won numerous awards and polls, including the 1995, 2007, "The Golden Record" which is the finest and foremost Swedish jazz award. In 1995 and 2008 he received "The Jazz Cat" in the category "Contemporary star of Jazz. In 2015 Bergcrantz became #1 trumpet player!
Anders grew up into a musical family. His father Sven Bergcrantz (1931-1998) was a major voice of the jazz piano and Anders two older brothers, Håkan and Thomas played professionally for many years.
Anders Bergcrantz is long known to be a soloist capable of stunning physical power and broad emotional range in the tradition of trumpet stars like Woody Shaw, Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan and Miles Davis and has strongly developed a deep and soulful individual voice of his own. Bergcrantz is performing all over the world as guest soloist and with his own constellations. He is active as a clinician / educator.
